© Michelle Chan While getting a day off, BBQs with family and friends, and fireworks have become synonymous with the celebration of our Independence Day, let us not forget the true meaning behind this day of celebration. The 4th of July is a wonderful reminder to those of us who live in the United States of America of what we have been afforded, simply by being born, immigrating, or living here. While many of us frequently focus on what still needs to be done to make our country even greater, today is a day where we can take the time to appreciate what we have already accomplished and how far we have come. Today also reminds us to be eternally grateful and thankful of the individuals, and their families, who sacrifice so much in order to serve this great nation of ours. To ensure that "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is upheld for all, it requires hard work, sacrifice, and dedication from all of us, not only those who serve our country directly. Just like in our relationships with our loved ones, where continual effort is needed of all parties involved to make the relationship successful, when we all work and collaborate together, nothing is impossible.
Happy Independence Day! "Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost." -Helen Keller
